The following tips are useful to avoid unecessary troubles by setting up scenes in FELIX.

Most of them are helping you to avoid noise problems in your renders. Some of this issues are solved in Maxwell 2.01 which will be implemented very soon in FELIX.

Maxwell Render

 

Glass Materials.

For all glass surfaces of your Architectural projects please use the glass materials from the "architecture" category. Those materials are called in Maxwell Render AGS (architectural glass shader).

For design Scenes you have to use the glass materials from the "design" category.

Examples:

non AGS    (design category)

In this scene the non AGS glass is inappropriate. It is not compatible with sun light.

In this scene the non AGS glass is inappropriate. It is not compatible with sun light.

In this scene the non AGS glass gives correct caustics and diffractions. 

In this scene the AGS glass is inappropriate. No caustics and no difracctions are visible.

 

White materials

Avoid to use the 255 luminosity color for your white materials in the R0 and R90 channels. Use a maximum of 220 as luminosity. Light distribution beahves correctly and your image will have a much lower amount of noise.


 

Examples:

255 White material 

The light distribution is flattened.

220 White material  

The light distribution is correct.

 

SSS curtains

Avoid to use curtains in front of your openings. Maxwell 1.7 needs a lot of sampling levels to remove the resulting noise from your image. With version 2.01 of Maxwell this issue is strongly improved.

 

Example:

As you can see, even at quality 4, the noise anount is still very high.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

FELIX

Rendering Speed multiplers and low-res images.

If you are rendering a scene at redering speed 1x and renderings are completed in less as 40 seconds you will not experience the appropriate performance increment at speed 2 x.

If you are rendering a scene at redering speed 1x and renderings are completed in less as 200 seconds you will not experience the appropriate performance increment at speed 4 x.

If you are rendering a scene at redering speed 1x and renderings are completed in less as 300 seconds you will not experience the appropriate performance increment at speed 8 x.
